What an honour - you will be the Best Man for your best friend on his special day. Or are you about to choose the Best Man for you? In any case you might want to think through the duties of the Best Man before you choose or agree to being a Best Man.

Best Man Duties are listed here, so be aware of the following. The Best Man is expected to:

• Plan and pay for bachelor party along with the groomsmen.
  
• Rent and pay for a tux, and go for fittings.
  
• Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
  
• Help the groom dress and make sure he gets to the church on time.
  
• Keep the bride’s wedding ring until the ring exchange. You may be asked to hold both rings or none at all if the ring bearer has them.
  
• Sign the marriage license.
  
• The couple will give you a sealed envelope with the officiant’s or church’s fee in it. You will give this the priest/officiant before the ceremony.
  
• Sit to the groom’s left at the reception.
  
• Dance with the maid of honour.
  
• Make a first toast and givie a speech at the reception either before or after dinner.
  
• Arrange transportation or personally drives the bride and groom to the hotel or the airport.
  
• Collect and return all formalwear rentals on time.
  
• Help maid of honour to bring gifts to the bride and groom’s house.

What to wear
Traditionally, the Best Man takes his lead on what to wear from the Brides Groom and Grooms Men. He may be required to help organize fittings and arranging the Grooms Men and Paige Boy to be in the right place at the right time.

Choosing your Best Man
The Bride Groom has the final say on who will be the Best Man. Before you decide, it is worth considering whether the person you have in mind will be happy with your decision. Will he be able to deal with organizing what he needs to, dealing with emergencies as they arise and will he bring the right attitude to the task in hand? If you have a positive answer to these questions, you have found your Best Man!
