Wedding Ceremony Order of Service

Wedding Ceremony Order of Service

Who goes where and when at a wedding reception? If you're having a service at a church or a registry office you might want to familiarize yourself with what will happen, when and where.

Type of Service
It is possible to be creative and decide on your own order of service at church. What is most important is communicating that you are making a solemn, eternal covenant with each other before God.

Pre Service Events
With any Order of Service it is important to factor in the events that precede the service so that your service runs smoothly and on time. Pre Wedding photos should be finished at least 45 minutes before the service. What's more the wedding party should be ready and in the right place at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time of the service. A musical prelude should finish 5 minutes before the service begins.

The Wedding Ceremony
After the wedding processional the wedding march begins and the bride and her father enter. Typically the Bride's mother will stand as a signal for all of the guests to stand. Sometimes the Minister will announce, 'All rise for the Bride'. After the Opening Prayer the congregation can be seated and the bride is given away by her father. Following a worship song or hymn the priest gives 'the charge' to the couple and they make their pledge.

The Bride & Groom
Once the service comes to the Vows the couple face each other. After this they exchange rings, light the unity candle and say the pronouncement.

The End
The couple may want to take Communion and this will need to be worked into the service by the priest. After this time the priest will say the closing prayer and before the Recessional the bridegroom is allowed to kiss his bride and the priest introduces the couple.
